Really nice new MP3 player from Microsoft
http://www.hotandfruity.com/xpod/the_xpod.shtml
"When this newcomer to the field of portable music players, the Microsoft XPOD, is placed side-by-side with Apple's supposed "best player on the market" iPod, it should be obvious which one is the superior. With no carrying handle, fragile docking connector, lack of solid buttons, and easily-losable size going against it, Apple's iPod loses out to the clear winner. It is only a matter of time before the Microsoft XPOD has displaced that inferior unit from the market completely." |
It looks like a piece of shit. In fact, it looks sort of like the tape recorder I had when I was a kid. Big and ugly. Nothing sleek about it.
I don't think Apple has to worry. Hell the review described it as "a portable music player for the 20th century". They were right. What about the 21st? |

Hmm..Microsoft Xpod..
Lego has toys named X-pod.. I smell trouble.. |
My wife has an ipod, it rocks! Good luck Microsoft.
...but why is there nothing about the xpod on microsoft.com? Terry |

Yeah I have the 40 gig iPod and love it. It has ever piece of music on it that I own plus I can boot from it plus it has all my consulting tools on it.
I found that link over on Slashdot when they were discussing that Microsoft announced that they would come out with a music player "just like the iPod" for under 50 bucks. Yeah right… oops I just fell out of my chair laughing. |
umm its damn big. and the name is a rip-off of Macs I-Pod. Like someone said previously looks like a portable tape recorder.
|
This has got to be a joke :D
|
Microsoft seems to think that we want to rent music instead of buying it.
http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertai...artslife-music Guess their new player will come with a really long Cat 5 cable. LOL |
Looks like it might make a good door stop. :D

I have not seen any information about Microsoft making any mp3 player but I do like their Portable Media Center software. Imagine not only having music but also recorded TV, Movies and Pictures as well.

Yeah I've always wanted to watch a movie and or look at vacation pics while riding my bike or driving my car. No thank you, just music for me please.
You can already stream music and pictures to your TiVo from your home computer. www.tivo.com/4.9.4.1.asp |
No Cleo, I would just use the music function then. But, while on an airplane or sitting and waiting for anything, I wouldn't mind watching a movie or a TV show from the night before.
Tell me...why would you ever want to stream Tivo to your home computer? Presumably, if you have a Tivo, you have a TV to watch. |

Yeah but then you would need to carry something with a big enough screen to actually watch it. All I want from a music player is something really small and easy to use that fits in my pocket or arm band.
You don't steam TiVo to your computer you stream stuff on your computer, like music or pics to your TiVo so that you can watch them on your TV screen. Basically your computer's content becomes available to your TiVo. |
Creative makes or is making something very small.

That thing is huge next to the iPod and only has a small screen so you end up with a device that is too big to strap to an arm band of belt clip for jogging or working out and a screen that is too small to watch a movie or look at pics.
Even the screen on those potable DVD players is too small to really enjoy a movie. I have a 17" laptop and even that isn't all that wonderful to watch a movie on. This is why we all go out and buy big screen TVs. I just don't get trying to have one device that is both a potable music device and something to watch movies on. They are two very differently experienced things. One needs to be very small and one needs to be big enough to have an enjoyable screen. |
