Looks good Greenguy might need to try some new fresh sponsors soon to my linklist when it comes online ;)

Cool, you must have just put these up because I was just looking at your stats this morning. I hate to admit it, but I base most of my decisions on joining a new sponsor on your stats. |bananna|

Just curious.....what happened to Extreme Paychecks? They were fourth over all in the last update you did. No sign of them now.

Greenguy 2004-06-02 03:35 PM

I didn't realize their new stats program was counting 2nd page hits, so I can't include them with the programs that are, as it'd fuck up the totals.

I'm working on a way to maybe do 2 stats runs, one for programs with 1st page clicks & one for those that have 2nd page clicks, even if I think counting 2nd page clicks makes no sense at all.

Didn't know that. How long has that been going on? I see now why their ratios have been so good. Damn it anyway. Makes me wonder what the ratios actually are.

Ramster 2004-06-02 05:54 PM

Lots of programs count 2nd page hits BUT will still show the actual clicks. I have one sponsor that does this:

hits: 2500, join hits: 1000, sales: 5, ratio: 1:200

WTF is that? LOL

Greenguy 2004-06-02 07:58 PM

Celtic Tiger - Extreme put in the 2nd page clicks when their new admin (as far as I know)

Ramster - what I hate are the programs like that that will brag that their ratios are 1:200 instead of 1:500 (based on your example below) That's BS!

adamneve 2004-06-03 09:01 AM

don't you just love the stats?|roses|

I agree. I don't mind so much if they tell you upfront that it's second page clicks thats counted, but I don't see it stated anywhere in the Extreme Paychecks webmasters area. Maybe it is but I don't see it. Silver Cash is the same except it's clearly visible. If they don't tell you it's kind of deceptive. Maybe it's there somewhere on the site but I never saw it.
If I decided create an Google Adwords campaign basing it on second page conversion ratios I'd get screwed. Luckily enough I look at more than that or I would have lost a good few dollars.

Actually although it may make no sense at all (which I will try to clear up a bit below) ever since Extreme Paychecks was released we always counted second page hits, there was a time when hits were inflated by the fact that we use to count each console load as a hit as well, after we resolved that issue is when most people would have noticed a large difference (because it would have counted each surfer 3x instead of 1x).

In regards to it making no sense, maybe this will help.

On "Agressive Tours" with an extreme amount of links that will bring a surfer to the second page or directly to the join page, I personally made the decision to count second page traffic because of the Agressive links on a main tour page.

However there are certain tours that dont have such an agressive approach to linking, on those tours we count first page clicks.

I spoke yesterday with our software developer in regards to counting, 1st, 2nd and join page clicks as this is something we have been testing and working on, sadly there is no release date as of yet. I personally feel this will offer a more detailed stats look, but I will also say that with our agressive approach to linking from the first page I dont see it as a very big deal.

Im a firm believer in the fact that you cannot make everyone happy, all of the time, although that is our goal.

Just for the record - I think Extreme Paychecks is a great program all the same and will continue to promote it :)

Greenguy 2004-06-03 10:31 AM

John - you know I love you guys & I can't say anything bad about your program as a whole - and these comments are not directed at your program personally, but.......

If I send 1000 unique hits to a site & 300 of them make it to the 2nd page & 1 of them signs up for the site, my ratio is 1:1000 & NOT 1:300

At $30/sign up, my per click average is $0.03 & NOT $0.10.

I don't care how many hit the 2nd page, how many hit the 2257 page, how many hit the customer service page - I care about how many I send & how many sign up - PERIOD

Hey Greenguy, you should do 3 stats runs, one for 1st page, one for 2nd page & one for partnership programs :)

Hi John,

First off, I would like to say I like your sites, and will continue to promote them regardless.. but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.

Basically what you're saying is you only track clicks you're sending "semi-blindly" to your second or join page. How is that useful to the webmasters?

Also, while you're here, i'd like to request a new feature.. it would be cool if you guys had a search by date range on your stats interface. Determining long term ratios and revenue is tedious when you can only display one pay period at a time.

Sorry for all the bitching, and thanks for your time,
josho
