We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information to help us provide you with secure service. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we would like to return your account to regular standing as soon as possible.

Why do I need to provide additional information about my account?

PayPal is required by law to comply with European Union Anti-Money Laundering regulations to collect information from customers when they receive €7.500,00 EUR or more in total payments. We regret this inconvenience and would like to assist you in getting your account issues resolved.

If you are unable to complete the steps, or do not understand what is required of you, please click the 'Help' link at the right top of any PayPal page. Hello Slinx,

I got such a paypal email too. My account reached 10,000 euro in total payments after 2 years.

Will you give them the required information? I'm not sure thou. Will they pass everything straight to the authorities?

Damn, paypal sucks.

flyeruk 2004-06-14 09:45 AM

Yep, I got one also :-(

I only have 3 things on the "to do" list to complete though.

1. Add a credit card and enter expanded use number ( I already have 2 added!)

2. Confirm my identity

3. Provide business information

I'm not sure whether I'll bother as most sponsors' have had their accounts closed now.

Anyone else got one of these emails?

Lisa.

Your account is currently red flagged because of suspected money laundering. I don't know if it's the right choice to do nothing. Maybe they'll give all your account informations to the authorities and this will lead to more trouble and stress.
I'm not sure thou. Anybody has any experiences with this please?

Are you accusing flyeruk of these things? If so, you better be able to substantiate your accusations.

Huh? Did you read this thread?
I didn't accuse flyeruk of anything!

It's paypal who suspects her account doing money laundering. That's why her account is red flagged and under review and that's why she has to submit additional information to eliminate these suspections.

She wrote "I'm not sure whether I'll bother as most sponsors' have had their accounts closed now." and all I wanted to say is that I'm not sure if this is the best solution in this case. I mean giving them the informations they want might erase this case right away, giving them nothing might take more time till the case is cleared for them.
And I wanted to ask if anybody has any experience with such a paypal case already?

flyeruk 2004-06-17 08:28 AM

Hi guys :-)

In the email there was mention of something to do with anti money laundering plus a heap of other reasons why my account needed to be verified.

I've already completed 2 of the tasks that they asked of me. Just waiting for their help with the expanded use number part.

I think that I got an email because I started buying and selling on ebay and used my paypal account for this plus I've received over £5,000 into my account over the last year.

Anyway, we'll wait and see :-)

Lisa.

Lisa.

Nice to hear, and thanks for letting us know.

Somewhere in the email they sent me they wrote that eventually a service representative will contact me by phone. Did they call you too or was everything ok by just completing the to-do list?

Thanks.

I had that in my email also although they didn't call me personally, it was an automated call and I had to key in a number that they gave me.

I think that these emails/checks are more to prevent or stop identity theft. There's been a few tv programs recently here in the UK on the subject.

Hope that you get your account sorted :)

Lisa.
