Need FTP client for WindowsXP

She uses WindowsXP and is computer challenged.

I want to put a folder on her website where she can drop off her folders of JPGs for her updates so she needs something really easy to use where she can just click a bookmark and have a window open for her to drop her files on.

You can drag and drop in cuteftp...

CuteFTP came to mind but I wasn't sure if that was what PC people still used.

I guess CuteFTP it is :)

WSFTP is a beautiful piece of software :)

Smart FTP is really worth looking into. Drag-n-drop and CHMOD capibilities.

I agree - especially with the new features for timing out & restarting & keeping track of what went up already & whanot.

Then again, I am old school :)

CuteFTP, because there's a Site Manager which can be set to bring up a matching local folder for each remote server.

Then it's just a case of drag and drop.

Never ever had any probs with CuteFTP.

Can't you just make a shortcut on her pc to an ftp url to let her do this?

She could could just drag n drop the images onto the shortcut to copy them to the server I think.

ftp://cleosservername.com/path/

ftp://user:password@cleosservername.com/path/

should work if you get her to install the ie hack that lets that syntax work again and save her being prompted for a password.. if you want to make it really simple

I tried setting up IE to do the FTP for her but she got all confused using a web browser to do FTPing. LOL

I use cute also and tryed the browser ftp on win xp pro - but it wouldnt do certain things so i got cute.. was any way..

I never knew that your browser could transfer files to your server till I changed hosts and a tech guy told me..

Also the trial version of cute I thought was better and faster than the bought version..

And also I tryed about 5 or 6 ftp programs and cute was easy and good, one nice thing about software is that newbies can go to downloads.com and try different software and read oppinions for users that tryed it and use your own judgement..

I used WS FTP for years but about 3 years ago I tried Cute FTP.

When I was on an open cable pipe uploading speeds weren't an issue but when they started trottling me it was a BIG issue. For whatever reason Cute FTP uploads at almost twice the speed of WS FTP. This on Windows 2k and XP and I've tested it on 3 different computers.

Cute FTP always uploads almost 2 times faster for me then WS FTP and Bullet Proof.

I contected support of both companies.

IwantU 2004-08-06 08:32 AM

cute ftp is the most popular ftp client used for windows right now

http://www.cuteftp.com

RawAlex 2004-08-06 11:27 AM

I am still using an old verion of cuteftp, version 2.5 which is probably 5 or 6 years old. Doesn't blow up, does what it is suppose to do, etc.

I guess I will have to update one of these years.

Alex
