computer nightmares :(
Hey everyone-
havent been browsing or posting on the board recently due to some computer problems :( the hardrive on my laptop started clicking, my computer froze and then I shut it down. after rebooting, it couldnt find the hardrive... a long story short, after trying to use norton disk doctor, running diagnostic tests and then taking it to the computer store it turns out that was the "click of death" and my hardrive is gone. the computer guy told me I should get a new hardrive and after looking at it said I shouldnt waste the money trying to get my data recovered. No problem I thought, I had it backed up. But it turns out I configured things incorrectly and I dont have anything backedup except from a CD backup I did in september. so, I hope everyone is checking their backups because I wish I was smart enough to ;) I did end up going to the computer store, buying a new hardrive and installing it myself, and as it still doesnt seem to work I will probably offline for 1-2 weeks. These are the joys of being a broke college student :) so, c'est la vie and BACK UP! :) btw, June is Gay Pride month and there will be pride celebrations all month long in different cities. There are a ton of straight people who come out for the parades and it can actually be quite a bit of fun, so if you get the chance go! |

I'd still try to get some data off of it, regardless of what the tech guy said - LOL - I used http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm on mine & it found most of the stuff that I needed when mine crashed :)

I've been able to salvage all the wanted documents on a couple of harddrives for friends and one for myself by taking the jumper pin on the back of them and setting it to slave and plugging the harddrive into the IDE & power wires from my CD ROM. After rebooting, just browse like any other drive. Being a laptop it may not have the same size connector, though...

Laptop drives do have different connectors then a drive for a desktop.
You can get a FireWire case for your old laptop's drive so that you can continuing trying to get stuff off of the drive. Makes for a nice and small external drive too. http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_It...Item=OWCMOTGFW |
