log analysis
what do you guys use to analyze your logs to determine what keywords are being searched for and which search engines are sending you traffic?
Also, is there a program that will run off a pc....ie. download the raw logs from the server to the pc and run the analyzer? also any can anyone suggest a site where one can learn to read/understand logs? thanks |
Try WEB LOG STORMING
it's exactly what you need:) |
We use AWstats... wish it had a daily... but all in all are pretty happy with it across all domains

I would also second AWstats. :)

My version of AWStats has both daily and live stats. :D

We receive a break up of each days hits, page views and bandwidth... but not a detailed break up of referring traffic on a daily basis, that is only on a per month basis. If you can see that, could you tell me where you download your copy from? :) |
Advanced Web Statistics 5.4 (build 1.467)

Thanks for that Surfn.
We are using Advanced Web Statistics 5.9 (build 1.605) |

Does your older version has referral statistics broken by day instead of month? If so I might do a downgrade. |

xlogan is a free program that analyzes the log files that i download from my host (it analyzes apache format log files--and can read compressed if .gz). it's not incredibly fast--if the log file is particularly big, i generally grab a bite to eat and turn on the tv--but the stats it ultimately gives me are extremely comprehensive.

There is no substitute for knowing how to analyze your traffic for yourself. Tools are fine, however, they are only tools. Numbers mean nothing in a vaccuum. Successful webmasters understand their traffic and logs are only one piece of the puzzle.
