Russian Crime Groups, Mainstream Sites, IE

Just found this at slashdot. Its pretty wild.

"unless it is absolutely necessary and unless you are going to a site like our banking site, stay off the Internet right now,"

Microsoft has yet to release patches for this

RE "stay off the Internet right now" Just use a browser other than IE.

Cleo 2004-06-25 09:13 AM

I don't use Windows IE so no worries here. :)

I just think its amazing that a guy like oooo I dont know, dangerdave, a smart guy, knows how to use his computer, has all the windoze and ie patches up to date, his virus program correctly installed and up to date, can go to ESPN or CNN and come out of it with a virus.

Microsoft has got to go

Cleo 2004-06-26 07:20 PM

Personally I think Microsoft is like a computer cancer.

They make crap that kind of looks like their competition's software, undersell them, then end up killing them in the marketplace. Kind of the way cancer kills healthy cells.

They have so much influence of the media that most people don't even realize that their are other choices out there.

Most computers in the world run some flavor of *nix. I don't see virus and worms being a big problem in other computing platforms, just Windows. Just about everyone is using Linux, just now knowing it. Something to think about next time you do a search on Google which is Linux powered.

I don't see business and government continuing to use Windows with its issues and costs. Linux is becoming more refined. KDE www.kde.org is shaping up to be a real nice desktop.

Personally I use a flavor of *nix that has Adobe software and some Microsoft software written for it and runs on kewl looking hardware. :D

Cleo, I ment to ask you what do u use for file sharing on your mac

Cleo 2004-06-26 07:41 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Apple menu --> System Preferences --> Sharing.

The personal web sharing one actually starts Apache. This is the same Apache that you use on your web servers.

Cleo,

You don't have any faith in Longhorn? :D

Cleo 2004-06-26 09:06 PM

When is their estimated ship date now? 2006, 2007… going, going…

I'm sure that Longhorn will be all that and will only need a few patches. I hear that in addition to making morning coffee it will also rub your neck and even dispense two kinds of intoxicating fluids when you write real well. I also believe that in tomorrow’s morning crap I'm going to discover that I now shit 24 caret golden turds.

Cleo,

Ya need to register to get to that link.

Mozilla 1.7 is a much smoother browser anyway.

Cleo 2004-06-28 08:10 AM

Strange the link works just fine if coming from Slashdot but not this board. :(
