My first freesite attempts

Joined the board yesterday as I wanted to learn all about the wonderful world of freesites and link lists. I put together 2 sites and submitted them and only recieved one decline due to their recip being on a doorway page. I think I am on the right track and would just like critiques from the pros that are here.

It is sponsor content, but I don't think Score Cash is over exposed so I hope that is all right. Doorway pages? Is it OK the way I have it set up? I read a couple different threads on here that say different things so I guess it might depend on the linklist owner.

I see what you mean about the blind link. I built that banner out of knockouts of pics and it gets a lot of clicks. I just won't put it up on any more, the places I have submitted to seem OK with it so far. I will keep my fingers crossed for now and just not use it anymore.

Hmm... if I compare my first freesite back in the days with yours I'd give myself a -1 and yours a 7 on the scale of 10 :D

That means alot Fonz, I feel a lot less nervous now. I read the rules on the submit pages and I get a little scared of making a newb mistake and getting blacklisted.

It seems the bigger sites are less demanding in their rules, the harsher the rules I see the lower the PR of the site I am submitting to. Weird but true.

While you can probably do ok by lurking, simply getting your name out by posting will get you a lot further along.
Does not mean All your sites will be accepted, but will pretty much guarantee you won't end up on a black list without at least an email or two first.

I have been reading the board for a couple days now trying to pick up what I can. I am not a design guy but I do what I can. I see some really fancy looking freesites on the lists but don't have the talent to produce those yet. Do you think it helps with sales or not, My TGP gallery experience has told me if I make a gallery that looks nicer than the members page of the sponsor that I won't sell crap. Shouldn't that be my same philosophy in freesites?

As one seasoned webmaster told me...."Ugly sells!"

I would take those banners you have and add some discriptive text under. If I['m a surfer, you should be telling me why I should on that banner. Tell me why I should visit that site.

Don't forget to sell your sponsors. The content is to get the surfer to your doorstep, now you have to close the sale. It's like when Baskin Robbins gives you a little wooden spoon to sample a new flavor. You should give your visitors a little flavor sample, but don't forget to have the big neon sign telling people to buy the latest flavor. You won't get the sale if you don't ask for it.

Aesthetically, the site is very nice, now work on selling the shit out of your sponsors and make the income from it nice.

I am waiting for my first freesite sale but I know that could take weeks. I still think it is the future of my business and want to eventually build my own linklist. Gotta learn the basics first.

I agree with Fonz... my first sites sucked compared to your's... we'll approve your sites!

I am finding that out and it is pleasant news. Only one rejection out of 3 sites submitted and that was because they said it was on a doorway page. So I am pleased so far. |rasta|

I am laying back a little watching some stats before I build some more, I have gotten some good advice off of this thread and will put it into practice now.

I like! Somewhat obnoxious, but I think that's a good thing. ;)

One niggle, though - The way Anise's tits were put on display on SG-1, you have little (cough) to complain about.

I have never actually watched an episode of SG-1, sounds like I missed something good. Biggest boobs I remember was LT. Ohura(SP?) on Star Trek...anyone remember the fan dance scene?

Anywho....I have made a few more sites. I don't seem to have trouble getting listed so I have got the rules down I think. Now I gotta learn how to sell. Here are the latest:

The second one I tried to use a little more text, I have to work on that some more. I am kinda debating what category to put the second one in. It is lesbian big boob content, but the sponsor is mainly big boobs. My instincts say to list as big boob because that is who I want to attract to the sponsor but dont know how the LL's will respond to it being also lesbian. Any thoughts?

Nice work, you sure have started out at a high level :)

Couple of things might help...

First get a good exit sponsor - saves wasting traffic on google and yahoo... you'd be amazed how many surfers will click on your exit link.

Second - try to get your sponsor text links to stand out a little more than your other site text, the way you have used them looks stylish but makes them less attention grabbingt... you might try using a stronger color for them of bold/highlight some of the keywords in them - kind've draw the surfers attention towards your banners and away from other site text.

Third - Pictures are big (file sizes) - bearing in mind the %'age of surfers still on dial up connections your 120,000bytes pics will scare them away - bandwidth isn't such an issue for free sites (although there's no sense throwing the money away) but you could easily optimize them down to 40,000 - 50,000 bytes without losing quality and besides these are free, they don't have to be perfect, just reasonable, surfers have to know they will get better content at you sponsor site, why give away such high quality free pics?

I still am not sure about the exit sponsor thing. I don't want to do something that might get me rejected or blacklisted. I did take your other advice and came up with this.

I like this one, takeing the input I have recieved here on the board and with my research I think this one is pretty good. If anyone wants to comment or if there is any other critiques I would greatly appreciate it.

BTW, I will quit posting them on the board after this one, don't want to be annoying and post every site I make. I just want to get myself rolling in the right direction.
