Link List Owners - comments please

This is for other owners of Link Lists,

Which is better categorised lists or just one big list similar to what TheHun does with his gallery listings ?

I can see how categories help a surfer find the type of freesite they want but its damn time consuming and I'm guessing at the end of the day its the new entries they are looking for right ?

Filtering your traffic by having categories allows you to have ads targeted at what they are seeking which adds up to way more sales for you.

This also means that the traffic you send will be more likely to convert for the site builders.

One of these days I'm going to get off of my ever widening ass and add a bunch of sub-categories to my link list.

Yes good point Cleo.

Of course that does depend upon the script(s) you use to build your LL. Mine uses templates and so basically all my categories are displayed in the same layout with the same ads.

I keep meaning to redesign my pages (templates) and include phpadsnew banner rotation so that at least the ads keep changing rather than always appearing the same.

Which raises another question for another post :-)

Edit the template so that it just writes out a table of links with no opening and closing head or body tags.

Now name your link list pages .php instead of .html and put this in the pages where you want the links to appear.

include "$DOCUMENT_ROOT/path/from/site/root/nameoffile.html";
?>

BTW: phpadsnew rocks. Use this board's search function to find threads on it. :)

Thanks Cleo,

I understand what you are saying but will need to read up on exactly how to go about that. Looks like a great idea :-)

Yes PHPadsnew is about the best script I've ever used. I recently added the geoip functionality so now I can display ads in the users language or ads which are more suited to their geographic location... so Chinese surfers see ads for casinos in chinese. My traffic levels are pathetic on the site I've currently implemented it on so my results are inconclusive, however I believe its gotta be better than wasting banner displays that they can't read or are unlikely to click on.

I've help 2 high profile webmasters by installing and configuring phpadsnew for them.
