Whats your favorite vacation spot?

Well this winter I am looking at going on a vacation for the first time with my wife (7 years, isnt that horrible). Anyhow, we are trying to find some nice places to go. We have thought about Australia (probably to expensive for us , was like $5k a person).

We were looking at a cruise to the Galapagos, maybe Hawaii, or maybe just a nice trip down to Florida to do some marlin fishing and such.

What was your favorite vacation spot, and what did you do that you had fun doing?

Andy

Zion nation park is probably my all time favorite place that I've been too.

I'm pretty tired of vegas, between the conventions and having a condo out there its getting boring, and it's too city for me :)

I want relaxation not fighting drunk tourists :)

I hate Vegas, probably because I already live in a tourist town so the last thing I want to do when I get away is go to another tourist town.

I, like Brando, enjoy the splendorous islands of Tahiti. :D

My favorite place on earth! First time I went was right out of college. We hit the strip bars and had some lap dances (only 25 bucks back then, not sure how much it would be now, and 90 bucks for the back room). Everything was cheap as well. Me any my mates would pretend to put quarters in the slots and fill up on fre coke and pepsi. You also can't knock a town where you can order hookers like pizza from the yellow pages. Best part about it...the place keeps my hours. You get wasted, watch shows, gamble at night -- whilst wearing shades of course. Then wander around feeling ill during the daylight hours. That's life :)

I'm a big fan of Key West.

But Alaska is incredible and this would be the time of year to go.

My parents have been to alaska and my dad thought it was boring after the first couple days.

I have never been to Key West and the wife has, she said its pretty cool, but then again she was in her early 20's and we are not really party animals anymore. I think I might still like to go as long as I could do some fishing :)

Well, it all depends on what you like, if you like looking at trees, and mountains Alaska would be the place.

If you like heat and Bars Key West would be the place, very laid back.

You have your choice of hundreds of boat charters to go fishing, cruise or diving....

For the most part, I don't like to be around people on vacation.. ie Vegas. (though I do Love Vegas!!)

My next vacation is renting a conversion van (not cheap, but cheaper than 3 plane tickets) with the youngest two boys and touring everything from here (fargo area) to the West Coast. From Seattle (relatives) then down to San Fran.
From there, depends on how much time is left, and when the van needs to be returned.

For you - you can go East or West - I'd go East and simply cruise through Penn... Gettysburg etc...
Take a short hop north and thump GG on the head.

It's a Really Big Country.
Ask your parents where your long lost relatives live in that direction and save some money on hotels.

Why limit yourself to a plane ticket and one hotel room?

Alaska, Alaska!! I'm a girl in love with that place.

I'd rather go fishing, hiking & camping.....even while keeping an eye out for bears. :D

But then......I always wanted to be a hermit in the mountains. |jester|

La Paz
It's not a super tourist trap like Cancun or Cabo has Great Fishing, crystal clear water, night life from mild to wild, good camping on the beaches if your so inclined or you can stay in Motels that range from motel 6 class to true 5 star resorts that are as nice as any in the world and two brothels |jester|

Bali has been my top spot year after year... but then tragedy stuck :(

Had friends who went there this year and had a ball and felt really safe... so next year in Bali is looking good for me!

For me, any place where I can live in luxury hotel suite doing nothing is a good vacation. I'm a work freak, and I need to go to someplace sometimes where I just have to be, away from my day routines. No computers. Lately it has been Thailand, but to go there I must sit in plane some 10-11 hours. I have never liked flying, and as I grow older, I like it less and less. I only can bear it because they have free booze, lol!

When we go to vacation, we always buy everything ourselves, we don't use travel agencies. Today that's easy as we have the net. As an example, my wife is computer freak, and can't leave home without laptop. In our last trip to Thailand, we could buy net connection there from our own home. When we arrived in hotel she just connected her laptop to phone line and she was in net. Well, she has Nokia GSM that has unwired connection to net but that's a little bit of difficult to use - it uses infra red (and is expensive as hell).

For me, vacation is resting time. I can sit by the pool for hours with cold drinks and just doing nothing. It's like loading batteries. My wife sometimes get a case of vacation stress and then it's trip to see all tourist traps in town, but that's all right. It usually goes away quickly. One afternoon in churces and museums are usually enough, lol!

So, my advice is, go anywhere you want, but travel in style. Shoe string budget in vacation is hell.

I'm the same way finnbear when its vacation its vacation. I am looking for some place to relax and just veg out without fighting crowds, watching teenie boppers puke on themselves from drinking too much etc. However, I also want a place where I can do some things like fishing, maybe parasailing, and possibly scuba diving (I went one time in Cozumel and it was a BLAST!). I am still looking around and am taking everyones and looking to see which ones look the best. Thanks all for your input so far its great :)
