Need a little advice from you LL guys
Mainly for the search engine traffic benefits I am probably going to start a link list! :) Any advice that some of you link list site owners could give me would be greatly appreciated ! :)
I will only be designing and overseeing the site, and will let one of my employees run the actual day to day stuff. My questions : 1. I am not looking to run a small link list, and have already put aside $5k for scripts and traffic if necessary. Is that a realistic investment? While I doubt I would have another Link-o-rama or Jaysxxxlinks ... I am not aiming low. 2. Is it worth buying cpc traffic to get the LL started? Is it worth buying traffic at all ?! 3. How do I get freesite submits. Should I try to get my LL listed on resource boards and other's submit pages? 4. How do other Link lists trade? Do they base their trades on the number of sites you have listed, the traffic you have, your google PR ? 5. Considering that I already profit around 20k a month, and will have one of my employees handle the reviewing etc, is it a realistic venture for me to take on? Is the link list market hard to break into and hard for new LL's to get into? While I am not looking for success in 1 month, I would probably think twice if it would take 2 years to see any worthwhile returns. :) Really appreciate any advice you guys could throw my way ! cheers ! |rasta| |
Personally what I would do is build the link list and take submissions as well as build freesites and submit to other LL's as well as your own.
Once you get PR, some traffic from the freesite recips etc, then go and add your site to the LL category at most other LL's. This will give you even more traffic. At the same time optimize your site for the SE's, and continue to submit/build more freesites. Once you get PR you could then go to different link lists and ask if they want to exchange index and category based trades and that would be a good start. As far as buying traffic for link lists I'm not sure if that would work or not as I never bought any for mine. Andy |
Let me start off by saying you do seem to have a very nice game plan laid out :)
1. I am not looking to run a small link list, and have already put aside $5k for scripts and traffic if necessary. Is that a realistic investment? While I doubt I would have another Link-o-rama or Jaysxxxlinks ... I am not aiming low. The script will probably cost you a couple $100 - I think the Link Admin I have from Richard is $400. So that ewill leave you a nice chunk of change for traffic.... 2. Is it worth buying cpc traffic to get the LL started? Is it worth buying traffic at all ?! I wish I knew - LOL - I've never bought traffic for a link list or TGP, but I have to assume that you had betterhave all your ducks in a row beofre you buy the traffic :) 3. How do I get freesite submits. Should I try to get my LL listed on resource boards and other's submit pages? Yes, submit to resource sites, ask for webmaster page link trades, post on the boards & beg & plead for people to submit to you :) 4. How do other Link lists trade? Do they base their trades on the number of sites you have listed, the traffic you have, your google PR ? For a mian page link, I base it on traffic that they are sending (the Top 20 list) as well as some links for friends that have helped me in the past & links to sites that I am currently running. I do some trades for PR, but very few. Properly run Link Lists are very time consuming. Doing reviews & listing sites is just 1/2 the battle - you also have to police the sites you have listed, keep up with banners/ads on the pages, keep track of trades, etc. I would honestly say that you're looking at a year, maybe more, before you become a force in the Link List market (which, IMHO, is a tad bit saturated - but not as saturated as TGP's - but that's another story - LOL) Now - some things for you to think about :) What kind of link list do you plan on making? General with the usual categories? Niche specific? Search function? Listing Pay and/or AVS and/or Free Sites? Category specific recips? How much are you paying your employee to run it? (and remember, if & when you get popular, it'll take longer & longer to do the things your employee is doing during the infancy of the site) Banner rotator? Traffic trading script? Blog or daily comments? How will you fill the categories before you "open" the site? |
Let me start off by saying you do seem to have a very nice game plan laid out :)
Thanks :) I really need to do my research before taking something like this on. It's not worth doing unless done correctly. Yes, submit to resource sites, ask for webmaster page link trades, post on the boards & beg & plead for people to submit to you :) Beg and plead? Is it really that hard to get submits? I considered paying for submits in an effort to get freesites submitted and kick start me. Properly run Link Lists are very time consuming. Doing reviews & listing sites is just 1/2 the battle - you also have to police the sites you have listed, keep up with banners/ads on the pages, keep track of trades, etc. I would honestly say that you're looking at a year, maybe more, before you become a force in the Link List market (which, IMHO, is a tad bit saturated - but not as saturated as TGP's - but that's another story - LOL) A year is ok :) I have a lot of capital behind me, and while I would prefer not to have to sink funds into this, I would if needed. What kind of link list do you plan on making? General with the usual categories? Niche specific? Search function? Listing Pay and/or AVS and/or Free Sites? Category specific recips? General listing with categories. Will list AVS, paysites with sponsor programs, general freesites, sponsor hosted freesites. How much are you paying your employee to run it? (and remember, if & when you get popular, it'll take longer & longer to do the things your employee is doing during the infancy of the site) I already employ a couple of people full time and he is one of them. Since I am looking after the top level stuff and design etc, I figure it will only take him 1-2 hours a day in the early stages. If it gets bigger I can easily employ someone extra if needed. Banner rotator? Traffic trading script? Blog or daily comments? How will you fill the categories before you "open" the site? Advertising, banners, traffic trading are easy. My programmer will set up all scripts too... that stuff is easily looked after. I will fill the categories with my own paysites freesites already done, my past freesites, sponsor hosted freesites, and around 200 or so freesites from friends who have done freesites for years. Is there any other stuff i would need to do to fill the categories ? Also have I gotten the wrong idea about something, and have I assumed something which is wrong? I welcome criticism on my plan, and never get defensive when it comes to making $, so please be honest. |
Beg and plead? Is it really that hard to get submits? I considered paying for submits in an effort to get freesites submitted and kick start me.
When you 1st get started, yes, it'll be really hard to get submits. Most of us already have a group of sites that we submit to on a regular basis, so you'll have to convince people it's worth it to submit to you as well. Paying for submits? That's a new one on me, but in theory it might work - meaning that you'll get sites for your pages & if you're sending a decent amount of traffic, they'll probably continue to submit after you stop paying for them. A year is ok :) I have a lot of capital behind me, and while I would prefer not to have to sink funds into this, I would if needed. Buying traffic & paying the person to run the site will probably be the only major expenses. Is there any other stuff i would need to do to fill the categories ? That will all depend on how many sites you have listed in each category once you get all of those other sites listed. It never fails - you think you have or can get enough sites to fill each category, but there's always 1 or 2 that will only have 5 links on the pages - LOL So that's just one of those thing that you'd look at the week before you open. That's when you come to the boards, post that you're looking for whatever niche's you need to fill & go from there. Also have I gotten the wrong idea about something, and have I assumed something which is wrong? I welcome criticism on my plan, and never get defensive when it comes to making $, so please be honest. I have no need to sugar coat anything - LOL - so you're getting my honest opinion on things. But, I will say that I am only looking at a plan laid out in text & not the site itself, which is where I'd get harsh on you, if need be :D |
this is a great info Thread |waves|

Good luck, man. In the end, the list will only be as good as the person you have reviewing your sites.
It was about 20%-30% rejects per day from another thread around here. Don't forget cheating is up 1000%: http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...&threadid=8864 So, your guy (or gal) will need to know all those tricks. From the outside, it seems when you start a LL you will be a slave to it when it becomes successful. I guess the key is to have very high quality reviewer/policeman you can trust. |
Its a lot of work. heck I spent almost 2 days adding 70 pay links in and that included signing up for a new sponsor looking at the sites and writing what I think a good description..
For anyone thinking about starting a LL.. Have a good number of free sites to carry you through then start one after your making decent money off of them.. Because if you do it like I started you will be working 12 to 15 hours a day.. I started mine after I had very few free sites, So now its getting harder and harder to find time to build them.. IMHO I would not buy traffic for a LL - because bought traffic most of the time is all free loader traffic or tgp or third world traffic and non bookmarking.. Plus it would suck to have 30k of traffic on your LL a day and not see any sales.. IMHO I would rather have 1500 hun a day of pure SE or LL recip traffic or free site feeder traffic = $$$ Bought traffic = 000 later |
