Mizz B you should ask your host if they can install Awstats from CPanel for you. Most webmasters I know use it on there host and are very happy. It gives Monthly, daily, hourly, and the duration the vistor was at your site.
Other external counters would be
www.paycounter.com www.sextracker.com and
www.xxxcounter.com . I would suggest not putting these on your free sites because they can get you rejected and even banned at some places. If it is for your own personal website then these would be good as well.
