I couldn't have handled that at all. Last Easter, my neighbor's nephew was killed in Iraq and that was one painful funeral. More sorrowful than any funeral that I've been to for my own family members thus far. I just stood there on the lawn of the national cemetary, holding my own little boy, and staring at that poor kid's parents. That really tore me apart. I think I nearly broke my son in half, I was holding him so tight.
When I was in the army, I was on funeral detail for a retired CSM. That was nothing. Very dry. Sad, but dry. But burying a young soldier who was just killed in combat is fucking horrible.
Now I understand what you were saying about your job being stressful.
