I read through this thread (every post every page!) and I think that if done right, it could work. Key is, how does one go about doing it "right" as far as legality issues, as GG brought up. There was debate over whether the surfer would pay for the entire directory or pay per link clicked on... and who owned what.

I think that you could probably feasibly do it if you charged the surfer a small fee for access to the directory. This is not uncommon in mainstream webmastering by any means, if we think about say "people finders" the people can run searches etc for people / places etc, but they can't view ANYTHING until they pay a small fee, then they can view EVERYTHING. They have to pay for the directory... to try to charge someone per click on a link, it would have to depend on the link, and if the link really DID belong to the linklist. Is it the LL owners work? Is it the LL owners server that it is hosted on? Is it the LL owners domain, etc? Yeah there's a link TO it through the LL owners domain, but that doesn't make it "his/her" link or site or gallery by any means.

That's where I see the biggest legal discrepency in all of this... but I could be wrong <shrugs>
