Thats the way it goes there. I once knew a LTC who ran a consulting business on the side for his last 5 years. He was pulling in about 130k from the fed side and when he was retiring he got drunk and I asked him about his consulting business. He set up all his contracts to be located in areas he constantly flew to for fed work. He would take two or three days off of work after he completed his fed work and go work with the contracts. He was working with companies like GM, ATT etc. He had a doctorate degree that they paid for, (Jim your son is in IT tell him to start putting in for IT certification schools, the feds pay for it all, even his gas, tolls, hotel and travel expsenses while at the school) anyway this guy told me he was making over 200k a year consulting. It's a good gig just stressful. Good stuff...
