Good idea . . . however, I think you may have missed a rather important part of trackbacks.
First off, if you think hardlink trades are good, they have nothing compared to trackbacks. The trackback is the ultimate recip.
While many blog scripts offer the trackback option, many are now including the 'nofollow' tag. Blogger started it, and many followed in kind.
Before I would ever do a trackback to anyone, look at someone else's comment or trackback that was done prior. View the page source, and so a search for nofollow. If you get a match, move along.
Wordpress started including the nofollow tag when they released 1.5, however, there is a plugin you can install for the 'dofollow' tag. If you don't have it, I highly suggest you do.
If the spider isn't going to follow the links back to your blog, there really isn't much point in doing a trackback unless that guys blog gets "mad views."
