Ok bill here is a basic walkthrough. For example in the bloging universe people will see an article about a person and decided to write about themselves under the same context, so here I answered a question:
http://www.boogie-blog.com/why-do-yo...hat-you-do.htm
Lets say you want to answer the same question on your blog, but want to let people know where you got the idea (and also get a linkabck for free)
You'll look for the trackback url on the page, in thise case its in the grey 'metadata' box. you can usually F-search for "track" to find it. the url is:
http://www.boogie-blog.com/why-do-yo...htm/trackback/
Now when writing your article you might say
"I was over at (link to boogie-blog) and I saw this article (Linked to the article)... i wanted to discuss this matter"
Then in your blog script you include the URL in the "trackback" field. What this does is when you publish your article, it will alert my blog that someone is talkin about my entry and create an automated comment that will link back to your site, quote your site, and help get you readers from my article.
