Bill, sadly, the longer the republicans stay in power, the bigger the FUTURE bill gets. It never ever every comes due when they are in power (although I guess they finally did during Bush 1, which pretty much did him in). Until things get fiscally so bad that there are no other choices, debt and overspending are issues swept far under the rug, so next election they can talk about the "tax and spend liberals" (as opposed to the "just spend conservatives").
