When she-cats are in heat (maybe other animals, too), their ovaries swell up in some way that really implants them in the body. If she is spayed in the condition, there could be parts of the ovaries which do not get completely removed with the basic slice-and-scoop surgery. What that means is that she will be sterilized, but will still go into heat! My mother did this to her cat, finally broke down and got her fixed while she was in heat, lied to the vet, and ended up with a yowling, presenting, gooey kitty anyhow. Years later, kitty finally got a follow-up surgery to remove the remaining ovary part, which was covered in scar tissue and took about 4 hours of surgery to locate and remove. Kitty has a massive wound and was in pain for a while.

Oh, and don't cheap out on the meds: your vet should offer a liquid painkiller for your special girl after her surgery.

OMG, I had no idea, I will have to ask the vet about that, I'm going to go crazy if I have to wait longer, esp. if she is the type of breed that doesn't go out of heat until she is fixed or pregnant. I'm still waiting to hear back from some Aby breeders that question as to how long this breed goes into heat.
