I tried it with a micro-niche site that was converting unbelievably for me, and $400 later I was even. So technically it worked, but didn't generate any real revenue for me. Didn't lose money though.

I targeted the same keyphrases that were bringing SE traffic to the page that was selling the site for me and that seemed to work out well.
