I received mine today. Postcard with adult words and such "the worlds largest adult digital media expo". Mailed from San Fran.
Not discrete, not subtle, and certainly not to the liking of everyone involved.
Just as importantly, considering this show is running the same time as CES, sending out "sign up now" cards less than 30 days before an event in a town where hotels are effectively sold out is a major league waste of money.
Jim: Kickbacks... basically, if the show makes the number of rooms nights they require (I am suspecting close to 1000 room nights average for a 5 or 7 day period) they will get an amount equal to the travel agent commission, or other financial or non-financial spiffs for hitting the goal. It can also be a reduction in the cost of the show floor space, or not having to pay an surcharge for failing to make the number. In the overall scheme of things, it isn't the biggest number in the game, but it is one of many ways that a very large show like this can pad the numbers. They probably wasted most of that spiff money mailing out these cards.
