I agree on the doubling the cost of repairs. We too are fixing up our house to sell and concentrating on kitchen and bathrooms. So far, we have the counter tops re done, we went with tile, which you have to be more careful with, but sure looks nice. Redid the floor too, and getting estimates to add 4 more cabinets to match the existing cabinets. Hopefully, that won't be too much.

I just went to the building department, because our next phase is to convert attached storage into another bedroom, so this would be a 3 bedroom house with den, and found out we don't need a permit.

Any house that construction was started before 10/98 on (which this house fall in to) you don't need a permit on any additions, as long as it is attached to the original house. Yippee, no inspectors looking over our shoulders as we do the work.
