Well, some of it is like GG (and Tommy too, I think) says, part of his success is just from being around non-stop since most of this started.
I'd say that like with most people who started 'doing adult' say 8 (or more) years ago, a lot of the stuff we built didn't really have a narrowly-defined marketing purpose. We built stuff for all kinds of reasons, and built a lot of different kinds of sites. Then we wound up splitting our time between the ones that we really liked working on, and the ones that just simply 'required' our time.
I could try to make a case for it all being carefully planned out. But really, I think there are some advantages that just naturally seem to flow to sites that have longer histories.
I sure can't compare the growth of these story sites to LOR or Tommy's (I wish), and I'm definitely not saying LOR's or Tommy's success is
just due to them being around a long time. But in the case of these sex story sites, they really did sort of create and grow themselves based on the submissions from writers and requests/suggestions from loyal readers.
It's kind of like what happens with good link lists, and it's the sort of 'organic' growth that I'm very fond of.
