Well at that time no, not as affiliates anyway.
My first 'sale' in late '97 was from a pay site.
<long boring story>
I had a friend with an amateur webcam site with his wife. She did live shows a few times a week. Still jpeg images captured from live video, uploaded at 10 to 15 second intervals. That's about how long it took to capture and upload each image. Streaming video was just becoming a viable option tech-wise, but video server providers were few, rather expensive, and were separate from site hosting.
He was getting frustrated finding affordable adult hosting, video hosting, payment processing, etc. that all worked together without major security leaks. Thats how we met actually, I hacked into his site, then told him how I did it.
He and I and another friend got to chatting one night and a "what if we could" turned into a small adult hosting company with in house video server, chat server and membership processing. In addition to hosting sites for a fee, we built cam sites for amateurs that didn't have the web skills and took a percentage of the sales.
So, my first 'sale' was a sign-up to one of those cam sites. I don't even recall the domain names now.
