I agree with you on the prices. However, the mark up on gas is really low 3-5% but check out the snacks

Stuveltje - Ice cream is simple to make at home, and way more fun to flavor.
We don't have the auto chill model, we have to chill the bowl in the freezer kind. I can't remember but about $40 US.
The first 4-6 batches will probably suck... don't worry about it, if you can cook, you'll figure out easily how to tailor it to your family.
A quart of vanilla/bacon lasted about 10 minutes.
