Some of the military strategy stuff i'm saying is true enough - a guerilla army can't function without the support of a population for example. But there's two ways to deal with it. One, you can be ruthless as hell, which is what we teach the South American countries in our School for the Americas. Or two, which I don't mention, you can make sure all the young men have jobs and can get wives.
That second strategy works better, but it requires that we really care about the Iraqi people (and be competent, and spend the reconstruction money wisely and fairly, instead of stealing it), which neither this administration, or the american people, does.
So we are stuck in a limbo, where we can't be ruthless, and we can't be constructive, all we can do is fort up and watch the Iraqis kill each other and occassionally kill some of our occupation soldiers.
Like the four marines killed yesterday.
