I can only tell you a bit, more what I've heard than what I know for sure, but ultrahardcore.com sold in the late 90's for about 10 Mil, architecture.com was the biggest seller back then though, for an amount so ridiculous it absolutely amazed me.
sex.com must have spent more on lawyers than was ever seen by any of the owners or alleged owners. Got real nasty.
Both adult sites had functioning websites though.
The architecture one was just a guy with a bright idea who registered first.
In this biz, I don't think domain names count as much as they used to, look at AL4A.com, wtf does that even mean? But it's worth a helluva lot more than nasty.com.
I just registered screamingasshole.com, pretty generic, probably use it for a blog, but hey, it's for sale! As are all of my domains for the right price.
