I was in Key West, at home, watching CNN's morning news or at least having it on in the background as usual as I started the day. I'd been up a few hours by the time the first plane hit.
I think I had one of GWB's "reading to children" moments when I saw that first hit. I remember watching the news of the first hit, then watching the second plane hit, but my ex told me that when she woke up and came into the room, I was sitting there staring at the screen without saying anything, not even when she asked me what I was watching.
She thought I was just being rude, and that it was too early in the morning to be so wrapped up in some kind of action movie. She said it took her a few minutes to realize it was CNN that I had on, and that was when she noticed I was still not responding to anything she was saying to me. Only thing I remember about that part of things was her shaking my shoulder pretty hard. I don't remember anything but watching the things happening on the screen and listening to the reports.
I think I didn't believe my own eyes and ears, and was working so hard on processing what had happened that I didn't have room for more input right then. (Either that or she's right and I never paid enough attention to her.)
