The thing to stress is that there are many variations on both business models, therefore even asking if one is intrinsically better than the other is inviting misdirection.

On the one hand, volume solves many sponsors' problems, so there are some big PPS programs which do not abuse surfers or webmasters too badly. But greed is often part of the equation, so you cannot take it for granted that will be the case.

As I noted before, revshare can be better all round, but many startups go that route believing (often wrongly) that it reduces their risk and the capital needed to start. Thus like PPS, all revshare is not created equal.

No matter which payout model is offered, you need to go over the tours and content areas very critically. Once you are promoting someone, watch your income very carefully, but objectively. For example, if you have a strong, well-placed promo on a site, you can anticipate a higher CTR but consequently a poorer conversion ratio than for a discreet promo on a less visited part of your page.
