It also uses java, which means any browser with java disabled will get the 'ol polar bear covering his nose in a snow storm effect.
Plus, it doesn't actually protect anything from another webmaster, it just converts everything to different set of characters. Maybe it makes things more difficult to bother with, but if you've got a really wicked series of html tags there's nothing stopping someone from "unencrypting" it, or just copying it as is anyway.
As for what SE bots read, I've no idea, but I suspect straight html is probably easier to digest for a hungry spider than a bunch of escaped characters wrapped in java.
It's interesting, but I don't see the value in using it.
