So far this has been a pretty good discussion I hope more people come in with their opinions as well.
I think I may have misstated the whole wealthy thing. Having never visited Russia or the Ukraine or any of what would have been considered old Iron Curtain countries, i absolutely cannot say what they do or do not have available for their daily nutrition.
I just assumed that countries like the US where we have an over abundance of food... especially what is term convenience foods, might have an impact on the development that our youth have physically.

this actually almost makes my point. Much has been reported about the differences between the far east's diets and the ones we Americans have and how the Japanese in particular are so much more youthful and healthy then their American counterparts. There has even been reports I have seen on TV (please don't ask me where or when) about how the Japanese youth are starting to develop the habits the American youth have and the detrimental effect it is having on them
