Problem with your line of thought is that there is no tmp folder in a wordpress install and since wordpress doesn't require any type of "special" permission settings, a default install could not create a tmp folder and then delete it when it was through.

But that having been said, if you have a good host they probably have a tech who might be able to fix you up.
