I use Webalizer to track traffic on my server. Simple and meets my needs and was easy to install. As far as freesites, don't micromanage linklist traffic. Build, submit, move on to something else. Maybe check stats once a month and remove low/0 traffic LL's on your submit list and add a few new ones to try.
