Yeah, for me, niche blogs do way better than general. I haven't really tried general, though, so it probably just depends on how and what you're selling to a general audience in an over saturated niche. Your mileage will probably vary like a mofo.

One thing I've learned over the years is to take broad statements like, "This doesn't work..." or "That doesn't work." with a grain of salt. Because it seems to depend on the individual who is doing it as opposed to a blanket rule-of-thumb or general consensus.

As for submitting, I submit to Social Bookmarking sites and some link dumps for SEO and search engine crawlers. If you want to make sales from those sites then get creative with the titles to draw in more clicks.

Oh, and yes, babe / solo girl blogs can do very well. One of my first blogs was a babe blog and it was a consistent seller from week one. I say was because that was the only blog that I had on Google's Blogger dot com, years ago... It eventually es-ploded into a million little tiny pieces parts... |bus|

So, yeah. Whatever you do, make sure to strike Blogger from your memory and never, ever even look in it's direction. Plenty of great blog hosts, hosting accounts and cheap domains registrars anyway.
