I think people were just parking their support with him because he was a familiar face. Except for his popular stance on 911 and the war, many of his views (public policy and personal) don't mix with the rest of the Republican party. A man on his third marriage and who has been photographed in drag can't be the standard bearer for the party of Bush and Regan. My 2 cents.
