Be careful what you wish for.
It seems the John Waters' scratch-and-sniff version of the movie "Polyester" (Odorama?) and the
Smello-Vision film experiments of the 1950s may have inspired some new experiments with 'scent technology.'
I never saw the enhanced version of "The New World" (since I wasn't in Japan at the time) but
here's the story on what they did there last year.
And here's the
DigiScents blog (no, it won't spray you).
So we may not be far from the time when someone releases a little device that can sit next to your monitor and release little scents keyed to images on your screen.
Unfortunately, for every scented image of beautiful people making love in a spring meadow filled with just-bloomed wildflowers, there will be at least two fart-scented spam emails or popups that you'll have to deal with.
