LL owners, how about some updated recips?
One of my biggest frustrations in creating free sites is trying to get all the recips looking right. Many LL’s have recips in 1990s-style HTML – you know, <table width=160> etc. Hoes, Adult-List, Smut Gremlins, etc. are in this category. Depending on the HTML version specified in the header, and the browser, these can display in all manner of perverse ways likely to get the FS rejected. A glance at the Smut Gremlins Rejection Thread shows a fair number of FS rejected due to “recip is way off.”
Quality browsers like Firefox and Netscape can usually render the recips correctly, but most of the world uses IE because it’s free, and it’s the buggiest piece of junk out there. It seems to take pride in screwing up the recips.
I’m coding my sites with XHTML and CSS, but can’t use XHMTL on the index page because of the old-style HTML recips. Sometimes the CSS styling interacts with the recips in weird ways.
Three possible solutions:
1. Use text links for all sites, but attractive recips are more eye-catching and distinctive, and I’d rather use them.
2. LL’s provide JPG or GIF recips, which even IE can’t mangle, with a category text link below (e.g. PenisBot).
3. LL’s provide updated recips with CSS styling embedded (e.g. Outlaws Porn).
I’d appreciate any comments on this. I did a search but didn’t find it’s been discussed before.
Thanks.
