In my opinion Labs are the best dogs for a kid but you want small
Don't get a Chihuahua I have one and he hates kids
We have a miniature dachshund pup that would make a great kid's dog, she should weigh in at 10 or 11 pounds when fully grown.
The only real bad thing about the pup is the volume and pitch of her bark, but a bark collar is fixing that problem real fast
