I guess I just don't know that much about this biz (to my surprise) and especially the SEs - I was totally surprised at what was posted by this expert on some other boards - and worst of all - was taken as gospel by some poor newbies that had no clue that this creamxtreme was more uninformed that they were and probably have wasted an awful lot of time following his advice.
I noted his first appearance at a new board a little over a year ago - with a post trying to find what SEs to submit to - this from an SEO?
then a few months later - a response to someone having trouble with their page - Do you have a doorway page set up called robots.txt? I found this helped alot in my listings" I guess I need to reread my info on doorway pages - I thought he had posted over here that doorway pages were against Googles TOS - but them I guess it would help if you know what a doorway page is.
not to be outdone - a post a little later: Doorway pages and robot.txt and other techniques are also a plus to know. One such technique is cloaking. I have begun lessons on this technique cause as a link list operator, I have to many links leaving my site, search engines frown upon this, anything above 100 external links per page." Gee I guess I know where I would be submitting my free sites - and just so Im not accused of editing here's the rest: "So I must hide the fact I have this many links leaving my page. To do this, I have to learn how to redirect the spider to a similarly named page, but with completely different text. I'm learning"
When a newbie posts about the use of metas on tgp galleries (and for anyone wondering - yes they are recommended) - the kind helpful gentleman posts: "Trust me, there is a lot that can go wrong with metas and java on a page that most script owners, do not allow them and therefore block them upon submission.
xxxxxx, I use the meta tag redirect, for files I have changed or renamed. Then too, if 6 months to a year have passed, after submitting a gallery, they generally are removed from most TGP archives and it is beneficial to not delete the file but jsut redirect the visitor to a new file.
Here there is no problem with cheating - again becasue in most cases, that file is no longer in anyone's data base.
Xxxxx u r right, it has been the trend lately, that SE's are beginning to totally ignore them all together. But the only good they are is for the SE's that still use them - and there are some out there that still do use them.
There are a million meta tags out there - and there is too much that can go wrong with them - a script owner would have to run a script a mile long to keep them all in check. The only way to eliminate the problems with them is to look for the word meta once and reject the page without any further running of the script.
I found the best rule is - is not to include meta/java in the gallery pages I submit"
I noticed that even after a very prominent TGP owner responded saying that this whole approach was not true - you just ignored him and kept going like you knew more than all of the others posting there. It's a damn shame that so many newbies are learning the biz from people that post the "heresay" that you do, as they sure could earn a lot more money ignoring you.
I would like to know your qualifications as an SEO as I do have a little interest in the subject and I'm always looking for fresh ideas - please feel free to contact me here or any other WM board out there (unless you are correct and I would just get laughed at on most boards - guess I just didnt notice it over the years)
