Hi Jester,
I believe that making them a bit dark will make the visitors pay more attention to the banner and the text beneath the banner....It's kinda give them something different approach and see if that works - Never saw anyone else darken the banners so I thought it was worth a try...I can always "undarken" them it's just setting the opacity style and then with a div with a black background surrounding the banner.
So if someone like GG, DD, Cleo, Richard or other link list owners does not like it I can easily switch them to their original look.
I can see it has both gotten harder to drive traffic to your site(linklist traffic not as high as in the old days - probably due to a lot more sites listed so my sites disappear among the others) and gotten a lot harder getting the visitors to click on a sponsor link.
I have to say that my first site with darkened banners seemed to work - but that could just be a coincidence - have to try a few more to see what happens - if they click the sponsor links but does not buy then it doesn't matter at all of cause...and so far I have not had a single signup in my first two weeks after my 4 year break from the biz...I'm starting to think that I've lost the touch becoming a father and family man...
But I am waiting to see what happens when I get picked up in the SE's.
and I have started designing my first wordpress blog and see how that works.
Kind regards
Sodo
