There's a very large online protest movement against this filtering plan, although we've discovered that nerds are disinclined to leave the house and attend meat world protests. Everything Senator Conroy says seems to be made up on the spot, he's creating policy on the run... but he still persists.

By the way, I read a rather frightening thing yesterday on Wikileaks.org but I recommend others take a look at it. It's called "My life in CP" and it's written by an anonymous person who used to deal in it. He spills the beans on exactly how this stuff gets around and the motivations behind it. Essentially, a mandatory filter is the dumbest thing you could possibly do to stop it.

If you do read it, a warning: it's kinda confronting. But it also has a few interesting bits of information regarding the growing child protection industry and their lobby groups, some of them operated by fundamentalist christians to forward their own moral agenda.
