Save yourself a ton of headache and use some blog software. From ease of use, the number of themes and addons out there, wordpress would have to be near the top.

I would think static pages would get in the way of your desire to just write a post. With wordpress (or any blog package) you can create a draft, work on it and post it after you've worked with it.

I'm not a fan of wordpress, but, it is almost designed to do what you want to do. And, if you really want to get crazy, there is a twitter plugin for wordpress (Twitter updater w/ TinyURL) which tweets when you start a post, when a post is saved and when it is published. You can also set up your profile in Facebook to pull the RSS from your blog and post it to your 'Notes' which by default are displayed in other people's feeds. They see a copy of the feed and can click through to the actual post.
