I was publishing swinger and escorts magazines and the internet was killing the magazine business. I already know how to write html, but not much else, then I was injured pretty badly. During my recovery I started reading the webmaster boards and thought this looks like a good way to make some money.
I was lucky and had some great guidance from people like the GreenGuy.
Once the checks started coming in I sold off my publishing business and went full time doing this.
I'm still involved with a few other businesses, but this is my full time occupation.
