And a list rotator, so that the sites in the category pages are randomly resorted every time the page loads. Throw in a feature so that if yopu have 40 sites for that category, the script randomly chooses 25 entries, so the checksum on the page is always changing.

Old Tom posted some php code on the siccash board designed to handle the display of hosted gallery links almost exactly the way you sound like you want them... if you understand basic php and can use the online manual at php.net you should be able to modify his code to do just what you want...
I have 80% completed the code for a dynamic hub site pretty much exactly as you describe... if you are prepared to put together the data for the gallery DB and html for the category FPAs that we can both use... I would be happy to handle the coding to make it work.
