for promoting, i find the free or $1 joins to be the best in getting the sponsors to convert for me...but having said that, if the niche you are promoting is small/narrow..then even full paid memberships work as well...
if it's PPS for you, then i go with the lowest i can to get the surfer more inclined to join, and can promote that too...
if it's rev share then i like something that's going to give me something, even if he doesn't renew...so a few bucks a join at least...
sounds like the best business model for me as a webmaster to follow..

and side note, always follow your own links in ..thus testing them..and making sure you get your code following them and or cookied..so you are sure you get credit for signups...i've seen some wierd things over the past couple of decades...so it pays to check things out..this way you also make sure your surfer gets where you think you are sending them too...
