It's similar to what we're doing with rainforests (and eventually will do with Antarctica). The answers are all there, but by the time we really do anything about looking for them we'll have already lost most of them due to how we treat the planet.

Actually the symmetry in the chaos is kind of nice in the way the scales will balance themselves this way. Or at least it is if you look at it from far enough away to take the whole "we're poisoning ourselves while eradicating the antidotes" out of the picture.
