Swedguy,
I have felt your pain...I spend my winters in Arizona to keep warm, but since where I live is so far out in the country, the fastest connection I can possibly get is a satellite hookup, which is really just one step avove a dial up. About a month before I came back to Michigan for the summer, yep, my satellite modem went to shit, they wanted like $300 to replace it and I didn't think it was worth it for a month or so, So I just got me a dial up service for the temporary....and good Lord you're right...it REALLY SUCKS! I pretty much gave up on building free sites to submit and just tried to maintain my link site till I got back to Michigan and my cable modem.
One thing I picked up from the experience was the way wesites load for the speed impaired....top to bottom and left to right for tables...something I already knew but kinda forgot to think about when building sites. Lots of people have high speed now but there are stilll an awful lot of folks that see webpages load that way. I know I'll be keepin that in mind when I build sites.....at least for a while till I get spoiled from this instant speed. One thing is to make my enter links a graphic again and not be so lazy.
