Hey I agree with you. Cross browser compatibility has been a pain in the butt for web developers from the start. I still remember the days when I had to make two different sites, one for Netscape and another for I.E. . Overall I've built sites primarily for IE compatibility and haven't gotten and customer complaints yet.
As far as my adult sites go over 98% of my visitors use IE 4 or better. with another 1.5% using Netscape 4 or higher. I have started coding my pages with XHTML but keeping to W3's strict guidelines can be tough.
