A blog is a "web log", originally a kind of diary posted to the web.
Since the creation of blogging software like Moveable Type, it's become something more, let's call it more like a journal posted daily or weekly to the net.
It's become the medium of choice for amateur pundits, so it's in the news a lot now.
There's lots of different types of blogs. I like metafilter and boing boing for daily news.
You also have semi infamous blogs like the now defunct washintoniennes blog, where this capitol clerk talked about having anal sex with bigwigs for money.
