I can see why this would be good for Google: When checking my emails on web email sites I often get a "site not running from a secure server" warning (I think this is due to the email site pulling adverts for the advertiser's site). Since my two main email accounts are Yahoo mail and Hotmail (Microsoft), blocking non secure sites will give Google a good excuse to block it's two main competitors!
